True Field Trip Stories

Photo: Echidna at 740m ASL. Sadly, not a Uni field trip but still fun. This guy (/girl?) curled up but then posed Paris Hilton style for this great shot. Blue eyes to die for... (Copyright 2008 Team Bubble Tea)

This is the more amusing side of www.utas.ws. The recollections and stories don't have to involve sex, but this is UTAS...
So if you want to tell everyone about that time when 3 students stumbled out of the lecturers tent clad only in botanical specimens
at 5am then go for it!

Strictly speaking this wasn't a UTAS field trip.
But everyone on it was a UTAS student at one time or another.

Two members of our party drank from a contaminated creek (we think?).
Several hours in at Lake Belcher (Mt Field) they had the worst case of gastro I ever seen. One member was on the top bunk and when the cramps hit, he got up to visit the toilet but forgot that he was on the top bunk and when he hit the floor it all came out.

The rest is not suitable even for this blog. But it involved salami.

This wasn't a field trip either but it is a part of the rich and diverse history that is UTAS.
When I was an RA there was a monthly (give or take a bit) screening in a lab of what might best be described as "blue" movies.
It was a harmless gathering of members of staff and postgrads. All consenting adults.
Fun times! And perhaps best remembered by the comments of one knowledgeable fellow, who said that there was no way that John Holmes wouldn't have fainted due to the loss of circulating blood volume.

Sorry, but this wasn't a uni field trip either, and i wasnt even there but... my friend told me that back in the eighties a few students etc used to do overnight caving trips down south. Crawling in mud for a few hours then set up your bag on more mud and cook up some food have a few drinks. on this trip my friend went on she says that after cooking one of the group who seemed very normal and not alternative said does anyone want some of this and pulled out a 12inch joint. freaky stuff 5km in and 700m underground. that guy won some sort of international award for physics or something later.
    now thats a uni!

That's a good pic of a Wild Slime Mold, but we've got a better one. And I suspect one from a higher altitude.
